The Best of TGS 2010

September 19, 2010 Leave a comment

I know it’s been awhile since I last updated my blog, but I’m back in school so I’m a bit busier than I was before.  I still want to update this blog every once and a while and since the Tokyo Game Show has been going on this week I’ve decided to post some of the highlights to come out of the show. For me at least.

The Last Guardian and Team ICO Collection
The biggest news out of TGS is that Team ICO’s third game The Last Guardian has finally gotten a release window.  No solid date was announced but we can expect it to land in North America sometime during the holidays of 2011.

On top of The Last Guardian news, the highly sought after, and rumored Team ICO Collection has been confirmed.  In the same vain as The God of War Collection, the Team ICO collection will contain HD versions of the PS2 games Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. They will have trophy support and 3D enabled for those investing in a 3D TV.

If anybody missed these two great games on their original run this is a great opportunity to pick up two games every gamer should have in their library.  Hell I own both games and I’m still going to pick this up. No solid release date was announce but a release window of spring 2011 was given.

Devil May Cry reboot
Another big announcement that was made was at this year’s TGS was the reboot of Devil May Cry.  A new game in the series currently known as DMC, is being developed by Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory.

A trailer was released and it features a much younger looking Dante without his trademark white hair. The fact that Dante is much younger could make this a prequel to the previous Devil May Cry games, of course this could just be a new Dante altogether.  Which one is it?  I have no idea.

I’m not a huge fan of Dante’s redesign because he looks like something from a Twilight movie.  But Dante’s look aside the trailer is really good and packs a lot of action.  I’m a big fan of the chain-sword-whip thing that Dante uses to smash cars on people.

MvC3 Character Reveals
In Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 news, four new characters have been revealed for the game’s roster.  On the Capcom side of things we Tron Bonne from Mega Man Legends. Tron Bonne was first seen in a trailer released a little while ago but this was the first glimpse of her in action.  Along with Torn Bonne we also have Albert Wesker the baddie from the Resident Evil series. On the Marvel side of things we have X-23 a female clone of Wolverine and last but not least we have everyone’s favorite web head Spider-Man.

Game of the Show
The game of the show for me is one that came out of nowhere.  Capcom is teaming up with CyberConnect2 the guys behind the .hack games to create a brand new action title powered by Unreal Engine 3.  That game is Asura’s Wrath.

I really don’t know what’s going on in the trailer but I like what I see.  You got a main character who appears to be beaten half to hell, taking out a bunch of stone soldiers in some crazy fashion.  Just when you think the action can’t get any crazier a giant stone buddha in space tries to kill the hero by poking him with it’s giant finger.  The only thing I know for sure, is that I really want to play this.

Well thats everything that I thought note worthy from this year’s TGS.  That is all.

What Am I Playing This Week? Vol 6

I’m a bit late this week with the update, but without further adieu it’s time for another installment of What Am I Playing This Week?

Castle Crashers has finally come to PS3 (HOORAY!!!), so I’ve been playing that for the most part this week.  I really like the art style, it’s got a good combo system and a funny sense of humor about it.

I’ve also gone back and have been playing a little bit of Super Metriod on the Wii’s Virtual Console.  For those off you who’ve never played the game before it kicks some major ass, so go buy it.

I’ve gone back to play Super Metriod mostly because Metriod: Other M was released this week.  I don’t have a large desire to play it right away but something must have rubbed off on me as I’ve had a desire to play some sort of Metroid this week. And that ends my tale of me playing Super Metroid.

Thats it for this week.  As always, Happy Gaming!!!
