Doodle A Day: Day 53 Bad Box Art Mega Man

March 30, 2012 2 comments

I got Street Fighter X Tekken today so I decided to draw Bad Box Art Mega Man to commemorate the occasion.  I remember when Bad Box Art Mega Man was revealed as a character in SxT a lot of people were up in arms about it, but I thought it was one of the greatest things in the world.  I mean just look at him! He’s glorious!!!

Doodle A Day: Day 52 Wave Man

Another day, another doodle and with Wave Man I’m now done with Mega Man 5.  I’m looking forward to starting Mega Man 6, because it’s going to give me a chance to draw Mega Man again and I’d like to so how far I’ve come from day 1.

Also it’s nice to know that Wily is taking notes and improving on his Robot Masters from his past failures.  His past water combat robot Bubble Man wasn’t able to walk underwater, but Wily learned from his mistakes and made it so Wave Man could both walk and swim underwater. Now that’s progress!

Doodle A Day: Day 51 Star Man

I really have no idea what I’ve drawn Star Man doing here, just kinda pointing at his foot I guess?

I always felt Star Man was a cool character in concept but was never really something that panned out design wise.  The big star on his chest looks like it would get in the way a lot doing day-to-day things, let alone trying to fight Mega Man.

Doodle A Day: Day 50 Gravity Man

Hey look! It’s Gravity Man! You know what’s so special about Gravity Man?  He’s my 50th doodle that’s what!!!

I gotta give props to Wily for Gravity Man cause it takes a real genius to make a robot that can manipulate gravity.  It’s really hard to believe that the same guy who made Gravity Man is also responsible for a robot made out of wood.

Doodle A Day: Day 49 Stone Man

I’m back from my camping trip and having successfully avoided being eating by a bear it’s time to get back to Doodle A Day and to start things up we have Stone Man.

Drawing Stone Man kinda felt like drawing Guts Man again because the two share the exact same design except for Stone Man’s stone pattern (which was a bitch to draw by the way.)

Quick Note

Just wanted to make a quick announcement.

I’m going to be away on a camping trip this weekend so Doodle A Day will be going a brief break.  Unless I get eaten by a bear, I will resume once I get back.

Doodle A Day: Day 48 Napalm Man

Robot Masters without hands are nothing new to the Mega Man series, but what’s different between Napalm Man and his other handless brothers is that Napalm Man can drive a car.

Despite his physical handicap that limits his ability to properly operate a motor vehicle of any kind, Napalm Man still somehow managed to find himself as a playable character in the Mega Man kart racer, Mega Man: Battle and Chase.

So if we learn anything from Napalm Man, it’s that you can do anything that you can set your mind to.  THANKS NAPALM MAN!!!

Doodle A Day: Day 47 Crystal Man

When you take away all of his crystal orbs, Crystal Man is a real basic design and for some reason I really like it.  Maybe it’s because I just drew a guy with a train for a head, but I’ve always though the Robot Masters we’re at their best when they were just simple designs.  When you get out of the 8-bit era the designs for the Robot Masters start to become more complex and they lose a lot of their charm.  I think that might be part of the I don’t tend to like Mega Man 7 and 8 as much as the rest of the classic series.

Doodle A Day: Day 46 Charge Man

Charge Man is the result of two things happening.

1) When you piss off Thomas the tank engine.
2) Capcom running low on ideas for Robot Masters.

I mean really Capcom? A guy with a train for a head?  Was it really hard to think of some other base element to put in front of man?

Doodle A Day: Day 45 Gyro Man

With Wood Man you look at him and think Dr. Wily had to be really low on money to build a robot out of wood, but Gyro Man is an actual example of what happens when Wily is low on cash.  Gyro Man was originally going to have a rocket propulsion system for flight, but because Wily had no money left, he had to fit Gyro Man with a propeller instead.

I guess 5 attempts at world domination don’t come cheep, but you have to wonder where Wily is getting his funding from in the first place? He’s a renowned criminal, it’s not like he can go into a bank and ask for a loan, or get a part-time job at Wal-Mart.

In the manga Mega Man MegaMix, Wily whores the Robot Masters from Mega Man 5 out to an amusement park as part-time workers to fund his projects.  But surly 8 robots working on part-time wages isn’t enough to fund a whole world domination plot.  So where does Wily get his funding from?
